Default where is reverse light switch ? 4 speed 1971

want to try and get my reverse lights working, where to start ? If I find the back up light switch, I can start to trace the problem. I have a 4 speed 1971 vert.

I can tell you that on a '67 the switch (backup lights) is on the tranny and the shifter turns it on and off. Perhaps it's the same on a '71. Hope this helps.

It is located in the transmission on my '78, and it has two wires attached to it. I believe it is on the linkage side of the trans.

LIke my '72 Muncie as I recall, you will find a flat bracket bolted to I forget where, but up front, and the reverse link....one of 3 shift bars between the shifter and the tranny....has another small, carberator sized link bar going to that round switch on that plate....it's the reverse/neutral lever.....

sorry, been since '97 my car has lost it's stick shift....for the O/drive...

It's on the tranny as all said. Someone (maybe Eddie) posted a pic of it in a thread I started, so a search would help. It's a small toggle that is moved by the shifter linkage. The toggle's attachment is barely held in place by a ring connector. Good luck.

Not to hi-jack this thread, but the reverse light switch on my '78 screws directly into the side of the transmission. Is this correct or do I have a trans from a different model car??

If your '78 has a T-10 like my '80, then here is the thread:

Default Switch location pics.

I don't want to hi-jack this thread, but I am confused now as to what trans I have after looking at pics in the links that were posted. The reason for this is that the reverse swith in my 4 speed transmission is threaded into the case behind the reverse shifter linkage. And the trans in my car is cast iron. Every other pic I saw was of what appeared to be an aluminum bodied trans.
Here are pics of where the back-up light switch is located on my car. Sorry if they aren't clear. the yellow arrow points to the location.

If this helps me identify my trans it might help someone else.

DJay, I have no idea specifically what is in your car, a Muncie is stock 4 speed untill about '78 for a vette, after that I think it was a T-10, either one of which has an aluminum case...I know my stock Muncie did....about the reverse light sw. I can't say for anything but my '72....
doubtful they changed anything untill the dropped the Muncie trannies...

hard to see but looks like a muncie, muncie & t10 sides look similar but the t10 has more bolts and the lower ones in an arc, so...me thinks it's a muncie...can you snap a shot showing more of the trans? BTW, if it's a T10 there should be W.G. DIV (warner gear div) cast into the case.
