Default 72 vette.

Can anyone tell me the correct air cleaner for a 72 vette. The car is the base 350 4 spd convert. Is it a dual snorkel or not. Did all 72 vettes come with a smog system?

The base 350 and the 454 had the dual snorkel. The LT1 had an open element.

I'm pretty sure all had the smog system. I know the base 350 and 454 did.

The air cleaner for the base L-48 350 is the chrome closed lid dual-snorkle type, and the L-48 did not have any smog equipment (except a PVC valve and charcoal cannister), although the California version might have.

I have a base 350 with 4spd and air. I put an open element cleaner on it. SOUNDS GREAT! Originally had the dual snorkle and no smog. As stated above only California had smog

All 71, 72s except Lt-1 and LS6 had 2 snorkel closed air cleaner. I switched to an open element on my 71 BB and I sware it runs better on the high end. I like the stock look of the dual snorkel, but performance wins out!!!
