A buddy of mine is searching for a brake light switch for his 68. Can anyone give me info as to were to find one? He tells me that it's a one year only, and that it's cable controlled? TIA WB
It is a one year only item. It is not cable operated, it has a lever that touches the front of the brake pedal arm and comes with it's own mounting bracket.
I don't think this switch has been reproduced and the last time I saw an NOS one (on Ebay) it went for more than $100. In my opinion, they are a very "flakey" design and prone to failure. I converted mine to a 69-up switch (available anywhere for $7) but that means removing your pedal assembly to drill mounting holes for the attachment bracket.

Thanks BBShark, for the info, I'll pass it along! I did see the 7.00 type that you mentioned. I believe that the car is a very original tri carb, but I haven't seen it yet. I will watch out for one on Ebay as you mentioned! WB
I installed the simple available style ($7 type) in my 68 without removing the pedal assembly and without drilling anything. Another forum member provided some directions. The factory wiring has a plug type connector that goes into the brakelight switch, so you don't even have to snip any wires to use the new style switch, so if you ever find the correct 68 style switch you can easily go back and install it. Also, these mods are totally hidden underneath the dash so it doesn't really hurt a very original car aside from making the owner feel a little like Bubba.
I will see if I can find pics of my install... meanwhile, here are the 2 different types of switches from an old thread on the same topic:
