I am thinking of purchasing a Quadrajet on eBay and rebuilding it in order to solve a problem with my current carburetor - gasoline drains out completely within a few days. I have tried sealing the plugs on the underside of the carburetor body using JB-Weld - but it still drains. I think the body may be distorted.
My current model is a Model# 7043213 FV and have seen some similar models except that the last digit in the model number is an even number which indicates that it was used on an automatic rather than a standard shift car.
1. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the standard shift model and the automatic transmission model?
2. Also - is there a list of compatible models that I could use?
70=Rochester
43=1973
2=49 state emissions
6=Chevrolet Division
3- Odd for manual & even for auto
FV is an identification code, but, I do not have a code list. My book shows the codes having something to do with the secondary rods but has no FV.
No info on interchangeability.

I am trying to figure out what the difference is between the Quadrajet on a 4 speed vs. a Quadrajet on an automatic so that I can determine if it is possible to use the Automatic version on my 4 speed car.

There is no difference other than provisions on the throttle bracket for auto trans kickdown linkage. You can run any Q-Jet off any car as long as you set it up to its correct jetting for the carb number and tune from that baseline.
