Default Thermal Limiter Question

My '72 has two green wires and one black wire coming out of its thermal limiter. One of the green wires connects to the AC's compressor clutch solenoid and the lone black wire follows it for several inches until it suddenly ends - it is currently just dangling. It has a small black boot-like connector located at its end and I assume it gets connected to something but I just can't locate anything. I reviewed a wiring diagram and it gave a vague indication of the wire possibly being connected somewhere between the AC unit and the thermal limiter. Please help. Thanks.

If I am not mistaken it connects to a sensor at the rear of the compressor.

Possibly the high press switch located on the small line between the evap and condenser? I'm not sure but will consult the manual.

Thanks for the info. What does the the part look like that I connect to? I found a small silver and cylindrical item with a hole in its middle located to the rear of the unit but the connector on my wire is not compatible. Could I need a special connection device or maybe I just didn't find the right connection?

The early A6 compressors used a super heat switch in the back near the AC lines. That's where the black wire goes. If the comp gets too hot it grounds the thermo fuse and pops it. A bad fuse will have a lump on the flat side.
