I am going to follow Lars tech paper for painting my 74. But I have panels stripped, do I still use DP on the bare SMC panels before applying the vette filler from evercoat, and then K36 over the filler
I find this interesting only because I've only done body work on C2s and one does the glass repairs and grinds the body with 24 grit etc and then applies bonding adhesive or other fillers and then puts the car in Gelcoat or Epoxy.
With these C3 SMC repairs, does one simply rely on a chemical bond between the epoxy primer and the polyester filler? If so, this may be a dumb question but why don't you grind the SMC and apply filler and then seal it? Also, is there an epoxy filler that is to use on SMC instead of the polyester based Evercoat panel adhesive/filler.
We used to top-coat everything with DP, but the aftermarket 'glass parts (replacement bonded-on panels) come with a note to gel-coat the part, NOT to ever use epoxy primer. So if the body is really rough, we may gel-coat it. If only minor break-throughs, we use acrylic urethane primer-surfacer.
