Right now I have my engine block painted and ready to go in the basement of my house (68 degrees) I would Like to take it to the garage in order to put it together and get it ready to put in the car. I was wondering If the outside temperatures of 40-50 degrees will affect the measurements I take of the bearing clearances. Would it be smart to assemble the short block in the basement of my house and then somehow transport the engine to the garage?
I would really like to assemble in the garage because That would be much more convenient and It would be very difficult to move the short block around the house.
Being a small difference between 69 and 50...I don't think you will have any problem so long as the parts you are installing are stored int he same temperature as the block.
Also, a quick stop to Wal-Mart, and $39 for an oil radiator heater, and you can get that garage up to 65 easy over night. You can throw a blanket over the motor at night, with a incandescent drop light under the shroud to keep the block warm to the core.
