Here's the situation, I using the old style fuelie heads that don't have accessory holes in them and the only place I can mount the alternator bracket is from one of the water pump mounting bolts. The problem is the bracket is not long enough and if I re-adjust it, the alt will hit the tall valve covers I'm using. I would also like to better stabilize the bracket rather than just have the one mounting bolt holding it. I was thinking an adjustable arm like I see some of you guys have from March. But I see that those are designed to also be mounted at the head. Are they that adjustable that I can unthread it to reach the water pump bolt or is there another option? And I don't want to weld an extention on my existing bracket so that's not an option. Here is my current setup......
There is a polished aluminum piece available that bolts to the existing single hole on the top of your alterator and repositions that hole a few inches closer to the engine, so your existing arm would work.
It may be part of the adjustable top arm kit, but either way you will only have the 1 bolt on the top of the alternator.
I had the same problem with the tall covers and the only belt that would leave me adjustment and not touch the tall cover was a 1/2"W x 55.5L belt.
March sells their adjusting rods in many diff sizes, checkout their website for sizes & price. you'll also need a brkt from the alt that connects to the adjusting rod
