Sorry I missed your post earlier and just now saw your request for info...
If you don't have a stash of used jets and rods laying around, you'll have to do your jetting within the limits of available aftermarket parts. Main metering rods are available new from Edelbrock under the following part numbers and sizes (you can order them through your local NAPA store or other supply house):
1974 and earlier 4MV Carbs, single taper rods:
Part Number and size
1936 - .035"
1937 - .037"
1939 - .039"
1942 - .041"
1944 - .043"
1946 - .045"
1975 and later M4M Double Taper Rods:
Part Number and size
1941 - .048"
1943 - .050"
1945 - .052"
1947 - .054"
Summit Racing also has them in their catalog for mail order. The Summit part numbers are the same except they put "EDL" in front of the part number shown. Price is $6.99/pair.
Using available sized rods, you can still obtain the same metering area by tailoring the main jet to match the rod. If you send me my earlier recommendation for jet/rod combination, I can give you a jet/rod combo using the available rod sizes that will produce an identical metering area at idle/cruise.
