My vette has a 2 piece speedometer cable that doesn't work (the inner cable is missing), so im ordering replacements but i dont see an upper/lower cable for the manuals. the guy at CC told me that the manuals usually had the single piece cable but I dont want to have to pull everything appart if i can just slllide the inner cable through. Will these parts work properly in a manual?
Usually two piece (Upper & Lower) speedo cables were used for cruise control with the transducer being the juncture. I am pretty sure that G.M. didnt offer cruise control for manual transmissions in a C-3. I'm trying to recall from my Chevy Parts selling daze and I am thinking that they carry (or usta) a repair cable which was just the inner cable with an end either plastic that was basically melted on to the properly shortened cable or some had a metal end that was crimped onto the properly shortened cable. I could be wrong so if anyone has more or current knowledge of this ,,,chime right on in,,,Peace,,, Moosie
Yes there is an inner cable repair kit also with that plastic tip. However, the key is to cutting the cable just the right length - and - not getting all the tips tiny wires in the core all chopped up in various directions. Thirty years ago I bought the staking and cutting tools from the then AC/Delco cable/casing catalog. Just what those dealers used. However, we never got around to ever using them. They are still in the boxes.
One of these days ...
You might want to check whether you getting a Chinese made cable "licenced" through ??? or a Hecho in Mexican cable sold through GM.
