I assume it's a one piece since there's no cruse control, but we'll find out. Thanks for the input.

If you have cruise control, it is a two piece cable. The upper cable is attached from the speedo to the cruise control transducer. Non cruise control vehicles have one long cable. I replaced my speedo cable this past summer along with the speedo gear in the transmission (gear was worn) I did pull the dash out to detatch the cable from the speedo cluster. Hope you have small hands. Tight squeeze.

my 73 has a 2 piece cable, you can get your hand up there to pry the clip,,your not removing the clip just opening the spring steel side that locks it in place while pulling off ,,the tab on the clip locks into the cable ends collar or have a second person pull from the firewall,,my son helped me took 15 minnutes to get off lube and put back

I'm assuming that all you have to do is pull the cable out of the sheath and lube the cable. Why does the cable need to be fed back through the firewall?

That is what I have always done on other cars, but I'm just not sure of the accessabilty with everything so tightly put together under the dash on these cars. I know one thing I'm not going to do is remove the cluster. Been there, done that on a '75 I had and I swore I'd never do another. I'm going underneath first and give the cable a blast of graphite with compressed air before I go behind the dash.

if you pull the cable thru the firewall, you can drip the graphite into the cable housing,,kinda hard to to get the graphite to run down the inner cable from under the dash

Some good ideas guys...thanks for the help. I'll keep you posted but it may be a while as it's obviously not a priority item. Next week I getting my leather seats redone by Knoch at the NCRS meet in the Orlando, FL area.

The retail job is about $850 and they offer, I think, 10% off at shows. However, you can negotiate a better price when at the show. Even at $850, I think it's a steal because I've got a '91 Mark that shops want around $1200+ for the same job.
As a side note, we should all be able to watch the guy do the installation as I watched as the seats of my '67 were done. I think it took the guy all of about 1 hour for both seats and they came out perfect. If I had done them myself, it probably would have taken the better part of a week and they would have ended up looking like hell.

You definitely want to get an appointment. Call AK a couple of months ahead and ask for Dale. The current price for a '76 leather is $375 for the material, $189 for new cushions, and $275 for installation for a total of $839 for both seats. They have a 10% off show special and then you can use your negotiation skills once you're at the show to maybe do a little better. When they are done, your seats will look like they did when your car was new. BTW, I've been to Carlilse several times...the place is unbelievable and a show that all serious Vette owners should attend at least once.

Mid America makes a lubricator that screws into the tranny end of the speedo cable. It has a grease fitting on the end. It costs $20. Part number 609-467.

I THINK THATS WHAT I WILL DO THIS AUGEST. DO YOU JUST TAKE THE FRAMES DOWN THERE OR TAKE THE WHOLE SEAT. CARLISLE IS A CORVETTE OWNERS DREAM. I HAVE BEEN THERE 3 TIMES FOR A DAY TRIP. WISH I HAD MORE TIME TO SPEND THERE. SO MUCH TO SEE IN JUST ONE DAY.ABOUT ONLY 3HOUR DRIVE FROM MY HOUSE.

When I had my '67 done, I took the entire seat and I'll do the same this time. And yes, Carlisle is definitely to 2 day deal.

The part description says covers up to a '74. I'm not sure what the diff is between a '74 and '76 but I'll check it out. Thanks for the tip.

Maybe it has something to do with the two piece cables.
