Default 82 intake porting

I was thinking about opening up the intake castings on my 82. Is it worth grinding down the block off plates on the intake manafold, or should I just leave it alone. Just thought it might be a cheep mod. I wouldn't have to buy anything that is. (except for a few gaskets.)

Thanks.

The original casting of the manifold covered half of the intake ports where the manifold meets the head in an effort to reduce performance and increase fuel economy. I haven't seen them myself other than technical article pictures, but if I have them should I grind them out? Maybe they don't exist and I'm a wacko. anybody have any experience wih this?

yes, but it's cast in and there's a dimple in the runner so you can't grind out a whole lot, you can match the first half inch or so but after that you can't, the runner is 3/4th the size of a normal runner over the entire length.

Thanks Twin Turbo. Looks like a lot of hassle for not much gain. I think they'll stay.

Cheers.

Take a look at the crossfire injection vault website. There are a BUNCH of guys there that do the prot matching. One guy picked up almost a half second in the qauarter mile, and said his car pulls a lot stronger on the high RPM range now.

I definitely think it is worth it.

Some go as far as to grind away the EGR too.

There are some great pictures there.

I don't know if I should be plugging another forum, but I learned alot from there and am glad I found it. CF is my home, though.
