It was the same reading on my multi-meter on the distributor side of the tach filter as it was on the other side of the tach filter. May have not been 12v, but it was the same reading. My multi-meter is not digital, it just has a sweep hand. I may have read it wrong, but shouldn't it have been less on the other side of the filter?

The filter is a trap for spikes, and would not lower the voltage.
Thanks for the info Jeff, I am far from an electrician and if it has more than 2 wires going to the same location, I am lost. Hell, all I use my multimeter for is seeing if something has power or not. There are just too many switches on that thing.

Heh heh...you know, a new digital multi meter is only $20 at Oreilly and it comes with a book telling all about all the features and switch positions and how to use them.
Hmmm...back to the drawing board. I don't know if there is a "filter" or not in this wiring. I'll re-check the build book & try to run it down. I want to iron out all other potential problem spots before ripping the dash off
I am cringing at the thought of tearing the dash off & redoing the circuit board and/or resetting the entire tach system....Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Perhaps I am just missing this "filter"? Is it an inline filter somewhere in the circuit? Maybe when the new motor was put in 2 years ago by the previous owner they didn't put it back in? (wishful thinking I know, give me a break).

I would almost put money on that. Seems that's when people that think they know what they are doing make stupid calls that cost us time and money after we take ownership of the car.
