Hi I just discovered this forum yesterday although I have my 71 in the readers rides for awhile now.... ( Bens bigblock ). Its great to find a forum like this that has so much experience being put up for everyone to share.
I must say I can see myself checking this board daily. All I have to do now is figure out how to get a picture of my car on here to share...
Thanks mate its great to be able to talk to guys like yourself about Corvette's though I do have a stock 81 as well... but the Rat is definatley my favourite.
I have done most of the important stuff to it ... custom 2 1/2 HPC coated extractors, with stainless exhaust and walker ultra flow mufflers. Heads ported polished and port matched to a torquer 2 manifold. Jetted 850 Holley with larger fuel lines and edlebrock mech fuel pump. I have a edlebrock rocker covers and air filter cover.
well there is heaps of other stuff done to it ... needless to say it frys the 295's on the 10 1/2 inch convos without any problems at all.
I must say I can see myself checking this board daily.
Welcome to the forum. As you will soon find out, this place becomes very addicting. Before you know it, you'll be checking up on things here as soon as you wake up and throughout the day too.
Well to tell the truth I checked this board as soon as I got up this morning and just after I went out for awhile I jumped straight back on.....much to my girlfriends displeasure.....
Great hope to be there myself... I had a look at you page Bob thats a pretty nice machine. I wish I had have upgraded some of my parts when I rebuilt my suspension. But the energy urethane kit was as far as I went..... but I did do the bear metal strip and spray of all the components..... by the way there is a guy at Dee Why that I have seen on the net .... I think his shop is correct conversions or something.
I have an 81 in left hand drive that I am going to get converted in the next couple of months but need to find a good shop to do it?
ben,its a VERY long hot drive from N.T to wakefield but it would be great if you could make it......need to keep the C3 numbers up.......it'll be good to see the bb fly.......have you put your entry in yet?.....the canberra club have arranged accomodation nearby.....john :chevy
Yeah it sure is a long drive ..... its kinda hard to keep your foot from going to the floor with a 1000 kms of open speed limit infront of you.... but fuel becomes an issue over 200kph.... over 250 and you can nearly watch the needle dropping but it is fun.
My car was modified for the Cannon Ball race up here a few years ago.... an loves the highway.
Aircon ...... well I can keep the windows down. But its not so bad once you are use to it. I have done the trip a couple of times and the road trains are probably the bigest issue. No aircon is only a problem at high speed as the wind is unbearable with windows down, and it does start to get rather hot inside.
A guy came down from Cairns or Darwin to Brisbane awhile back in his L88 and I noticed that there were a pile of ear plugs in the cockpit and after hearing that beast run I could understand why he used them on such a long run.
These forums are great for meeting likeminded enthusiasts as well as great technical info.
I'm usualy to be found on the C-1 forum but do check out the others from time to time.
he he
Yep any fast trips down the highway I usually use ear plugs and have a camel back hanging on the back of my seat..... full of gatorade. Even 40 minutes of high speed driving leaves you pretty drained.
The best thing is though that afterwards you are driven around town like everyone else ...... even if 80kmh seems like you are walking afterwards.
Hope you don't mind me interrupting this almost all-Aussie post! I admire you guys from down under who not only spend lots of money and time restoring and modifying your cars, but also for the patience and knowhow it must take to convert one of these cars from left to right-hand drive! Welcome to the forum and remember - BIG BLOCKS RULE!
:D
Hmmm sounds like a good idea... buy the way my 71 was originaly from S.A. I think do you know of anyone down there that had a 71 with the number plate SUM 000.
It was a feature car in a 1981 edition of Street Machine at which time it had Hillborn Injection and Side Pipes ?
