don't cut anything until the unit is installed and you measure it.....as gene said i cut about 2.5" off of mine but i wouldn't cut anything unitl i had a chance to measure it and remember the yoke goes to the drivline shop also because they balance them together.

Mr chevrolet when he make a corvette he know dimenssion! and this dimenssion are not different for each corvette!
so why we couldn't cut before install? when we kow the dimenssion of transmission???

i realy don't understand!

and about driveshaft:

cut a driveshaft in France isn't easy few guy make this!

Ps: i'm on the bad side of the ocean

All are made similar but there are variances. Especially since it costs so much, I would wait and measure. Also you CANNOT use an 82 driveshaft (without cutting it) in an iron rear differential car (63-79). The aluminum diff cars (80-82) it will bolt right in.

well you are mixing and matching components so there can be differences. if you have ever installed a drive shaft that is too long you will understand why we are saying to measure first . this is one area that really has to be right the first time. any truck repair shop should be able to do this for you.

Is a 1982s driveshaft the right length for a 1980 getting a 7004r?

The way I understand, primarily from off this forum, is the differances in shaft length was changed for the '80 year production.....

so the '70's cars take one shaft length, and the 80s another entirely....

after that, you get the guy wanting a 700 tranny, that means a custom shafting....
