Default What spec cam do I use

I have a 76 L48 I am rebuilding using stock lower end, just replacing bearing, rings etc. Top end I am adding and aluminum intake and a set of 202 heads, stock exhaust manifolds. I hear 10 answers from 10 people to the following:

What kind/spec cam do I use. I want a little thump but reliable? Any suggestions. this is not a high compression engine.

I am doing the same rebuild, going with a Edelbrock Performer intake and the Q-Jet, but wanted to know about the cam as well. Thinking of going with headers as well.

L/48 cam has, int. lift .390, ex. lift .410. .050 int dur 195,.050
ex. dur. 202, RPM range 800-4500 rpm.
This cam would be a nice upgrade and would work with low
compression, 308 gearing, auto or 4 speed
Crane cams Z-cam
cam and lifters part # 113512
RPM range 1600-5400
cruise RPM 2400-2800
8.5 to 10.0 compression ratio advised
int. dur. .050 - 212
ex. dur. .050 - 218
adv. int. dur.- 262
adv. ex. dur.- 268
LSA 114
int. lift .446
ex. lift .459
CAM FACTS good low end and mid range torque and HP,
good idle, daily usage, off road,
aplications: primarily used in 350 cu. in. mildly modified engines.

if you have a 4 speed or more then 3.08 for gearing look at a cam like this.
Crane cam and lifters part # 113522
RPM power range 1800-5800
.050 int dur. 218
.050 ex. dur. 230
adv. int. dur. 268
adv. ex. dur. 280
LSA 112
int. lift .459
ex. lift .486

To get rid of ten different answers to the same question call the cam company
of your choice.

These cams sound good, these should give you a good idle, not too radical, and should easily put you within the realiabilty of a stock bottom end and work good with the new intake and heads. With stock heads you want to stay below .500 lift to avoid coil bind.I don't see why 300hp couldn't be reached. Just my two cents.

Trans. & rear gears at least should be stated for cam.
Auto./stock converter minimum Edelbrock 2102 which needs better heads for 300HP.
Better something like Comp Cams XE-256 or 260H.

Manual trans. Comp Cams XE-262 or 268H.

Have done many posts on this.
