Default Holley Carb swap ?

Gentleman:
Have been told a few times that the original QJet in my '80 should be rebuilt. A friend of mine offered me a Holley 750 4 bbl(single pump?) that he used in a '77 GranPrx (350 BB) for 3 months before the engine blew on a track. He has no documentation on it and I've been on the Holley site, but this unit is old and not listed there. He suggests that I may not need a new manifold and the existing linkage will hook right up. Free is good!!! If it will works. Any sage advice?
Thanks
Ed

Unless it has a spread bore flange it will not work without and adapter. Q-jets have a spread bore flange, Holleys generally have a square bore flange.

The Qjet is a spreadbore carb and most of your Holley's are squarebore. If the intake is a universal one no big deal. It will have two holes on each flange. One thing I found though when I switched is that the Holley doesn't have near the vacuum ports the Qjet does. Also, my stock vacuum adapter which is on the back side of the carb and screws into the manifold wouldn't work because of interference with the Holley carb. Therefore, my vac lines are t'd in every which way for now until I get something that works. Linkage wise I've had no problems.

Default 750 Carb Swap

Just my 2c, but a 750 carb is a bit large for your stock motor, which may draw only 470 cfm. Kinda like going big early....you will most likely see a decrease in performance, unless you re-jet it and even then will most likely not get the full range of the Carb. However, free is a great price and can be used for trade on a 650 dbl pump.....

Like the others said above except that the linkage on my 79 wasn't exactly "bolt up" and I had to get a throttle cable adapter. I'm using a Holley Street Avenger carb.

What is the LIST number off the Holley?

It should be in Holley's Numerical Listing section.
