Somehow me and a friend got an application to enter the real Cannonball Run in the late 70s. I don't remember how I tracked down the right person to get the application.
We were going to run it in his Trans Am. We were going to fix it up like a real James Bond car. We were going to put surplus smoke grenades under the back to create a smoke screen to hide license plate, etc. We were going to run police scanners and radar jammers.
The entry fee was a little steep for us back then, too. I forgot the fee, but when you included expenses to drive from Texas to NY to CA and back to TX it was out of range for 2 teenagers. We were trying to line up some investors but didn't have much luck.
Better watch your top speeds as some states arrest for reckless after about 30over ....A few of my Zr1 brothers got arrested in Kentuckey guess they don,t believe " Life begins at 180 mph "
I always watned to run in a cannonball, but thats way to much money... Im thinking about going up to the start and just run with them but not pay, just for the fun... Who will know im not with them....
o ya and it says this in there too wonder what these surprises are adn what car it is...
"He has spent the last two years driving throughout the U.S. to map out the routes and plan several hidden surprises for 400 of the world’s most hardcore driving enthusiasts, ensuring that the American race will be the biggest and most memorable to date. And as always, Porter will be participating in the rally, challenging other drivers in one of his self-enhanced 500bhp promo cars.""
