Default Tire Question?

Right now I have 215/70/15s all around. Those tires just aren't gonna cut it once I get the big block in. I believe my Ralley rims are 15x8s if I'm not mistaken. I think I'm going to go with 275/60/15s in the back and 215/60/15s in the front. My question is, will the 275s fit or will they rub? Will the 275s stick outside of my fenderwell? What do you guys think?

The 275-60's rubbed on mine, but I think some people are running them with no problems. I've got 255-60's on it now.
The 215's you are considering for the front may be a little on the small side. That big block's weight is going to add to the cornering forces. I would at least use a 245/60 in the front if you go with the 275's in the rear.

I agree with 71coupe. I tried 275s on mine and they would not clear the ebrake cable housings. Only way to go bigger than 255s is to move and reweld the ebrake braket on top of the trailing arms and then reroute the cable housings on the back of the trailing arms. To diy this you need access to a TIG welder and the only alternative is offset trailing arms which are big $$$s. I think you'll find that the 255s will be wide enough since they will be even with the lips of the fenders. I have them all around which really fills the fender wells and give it a nice wide mean look from the front! :D

That's a good point. All my buddies that are into muscle cars run "skinnys" up front and "meats" out back. However, the only thing those guys do is run their vehicles down the 1/4 mile. I would like to keep as much of my handling as I can. I think I'll probably run 245/60s up front like you said and 275/60s (if they'll fit) out back. Before I plop the big block in I will be changing my coil springs to big block coil springs and in the very near future I'll be changing from a 9 leaf spring to 7 leaf spring. I'm hoping that the big block isn't going to kill my handling too much...but It'll still be worth it

Bence

I am running 255x60 in the rear and 245x60 in the front. It still rides level.

I would wait until you drive the car before changing the rear spring. You might not need it and you will like the ride of your 9 better.

Just my 0.02

Not to change the subject, but your signature says "Horsepower: 232 Net HP ; 186 RWHP" But it also says you have a 268H Comp Cam. Where those numbers before or after the cam swap? I hope before....Cus with that combo you posted I would think you'd be near the 280 mark...

Sorry for changing the subject.

im running 275/60/15 on the rear with no problems everything clears and 235/70/15 in the front..i have a approx. about 1/4 "clearance between emergency brake.
also remember the 275/60/15 is 28 inch tall so it will take away from your rear gear.

TRW:

How much room do you have between the e-brake bracket and your tire? I've heard two different opinions. One person has said that I can fit the 275/60s outback without a problem and another person has told me that the tire will rub the e-brake bracket. What do you think? I really think the 275/60s on the back and 245/60s on the front would look mean. Like you pointed out, I probably won't buy the 7 leaf spring until I see if I like the 9 leaf spring. Right now all of my money is going into the engine.

daniel77350:

I'm really unsure of my horsepower, I punched my 1/4 mile time into a calculator over the internet and that's what my HP came out to be. It wasn't exactly a good night at the track (my first run ever). My tach wasn't working and I couldn't get the secondaries to open the whole way. I've since changed back to my Quadra-Jet and have everything tuned in and running quick. I'm hoping to take the 'Vette down once more before winter time and see what she'll do after tuning her up. I figure I can't do any worse than 15.4 (my best 1/4 mile time that night).

I probably won't get out to the track until next season, but when I do finally get out there I will post some times.

Also, I dunno how accurate those HP calculators are. They don't take into consideration tire spin, poor weather, and things of that nature. only way to know for sure is a dyno run  I bet those are fun.
