What is the best way to remove and reinstall a 40lb battery from behind the driver's seat without THROWING OUT YOUR BACK?
I have got the swap batteries and neither one has a handle, strap or any "other means of support". Thinking about "jury-rigging" a strap of some sort.....any ideas?
I have done this many times using an old seatbelt. Disconnect the battery so it is ready to come out. Tilt the battery so it leans toward the back and slide one end of the seat belt under the center and as far back as possible. Now, lean the battery back to you exposing the belt end on the back side and pull out enough to overlap the other end. Level the battery and clip, tie or fasten the two ends to form a carrying strap. With the strap in the center and balancing the battery weight, you are ready to lift it out. It helps if you position your right hand on the back floor to take weight off your back. If this is still to heavy for you back you can use an engine crane to pull it up and out, but I ask a neighbor or buddy with a healthy back to do the chore. Good luck!
There are some straps out there that have a clip that goes over the top posts or bolts onto a sidemount. About $10. I've even used a spare belt from an old snowblower.
I used some twine and made a circle. Sneak it under the battery sides, and bring it together at the top, then you have a nice handle to pull straight up.

well worth it for even using it a couple of times--just a strap with flat pieces of metal on each end with a hole just slightly bigger than the battery posts--when you lift up it squeezes the post against the sides of the holes and up it comes--doesn't make the battery any lighter though
all good advise, but I take the driver side t-top out first. Makes a big difference. I have a bad back also I can lift a bare engine block & throw out my back picking up one of my kids shoes. Another thing you should do buy a good battery one w/a long life and install a quick release **** to extend the battery life even longer. G/L

I bought one from the local parts store. Bolts to the side terminals.
