do you know the tounge weight on the car hauler? i tow my trailer (camper) that has a tounge weight of 350lbs and trailer weight is 4000lbs with my 90 towncar i tow it about 40 miles and the race track is about another 10, the car tows this with no problem,do u think i could use the hauler for my vette, using the lincoln to tow it??
During my U-Haul trip from h e l l... the Jumbo Hauler Truck caught on fire. I was towing my 1966 Roadster behind the truck. I had to re-wire the trailer to match my 1987 Crown Vic because they had to tow the Jumbo Hauler to a repair facility, and I had to follow behind with my Vette in tow. The Crown Vic has the factory trailer towing package which consists of 3.5 gears, positraction, true dual exhaust, a transmission fluid cooler and automatic load leveling rear air shocks. It's a 5.0 engine. The total weight of the combined trailer/car was around 5000... guess: 1500 trailer, 3500 car. I have a class 3 trailer hitch on the car, but the factory load leveling system could not handle the tongue weight. The headlights were pointing up in the air, and it was impossible to go over 45 mph without losing control of the car. Luckily, I only had to go about 12 miles. I doubt if a Lincoln can handle the tongue weight. The 87 Crown Vic is a big, heavy car.... "land barge" ... and it has all the right mechanicals... but it was a "no -go" situation.
used the 4 wheel (full car) version on my trip from Roanoke VA to San Diego, CA - it worked great but as has been said before, the full trailer is a big heavy guy. A real monster - the one I had I swear weighed as much as the vette.
Get a good stout vehicle to drag it around with, the 16' box truck that was hauling my stuff, was barely able to pull it on an incline.
It took over an hour and a half to get up the backside of the mountains from el centro
I used one of those 2 wheel jobs a couple of times and wouldn't again unless I had a larger truck (1/2 ton minimum!).
One thing to consider is emergency braking is difficult since you're relying on the tow vehicle brakes alone. And you never know when the boneheads will strike! I almost swapped ends during one emergency manuever to avoid some idiot. At least the 4 wheel jobs will probably have surge brakes to help out.
