Considering a replacement small block 400 or 383 engine for my 72 stock 350. Will not be raced, but would like better performance than I'm getting now. Has anyone heard of, or used Marks performance engines in Phoenix. He regularly runs adds in ebay and has good feed back from customers. Seems to be reasonable and gives a one year warranty.

How much of that car is stock, you might want to consider rebuilding the existing motor, for that
year the car will be worth more. Sorry I don't have any comment on your question.

If you want to go faster than get the 383. If you want to fel the car go faster in the seat of your pants get the 400. Whatever, enjoy. :yesnod:

Alan 72,
I can't exactly answer the question that you asked but here is another of MANY alternatives. I had posted this in another thread. I don't know if you would be interested or not but Victor's prices seem pretty good and he is a straight talker.

Below is the contact information for the guy who built my 383 short-block. He is located in Walters, Oklahoma. The base price for one of his assembled 383 short-blocks is ~$1150.00. No core exchange required.
He seems very knowledgeable and pleasant to talk with. He won’t try to talk you into stuff that you don’t need for your particular application. In other words he won’t try to B.S. you into spending a bunch of money.
Below is basically what the assembly includes. I could be leaving something out but overall this is it and extra stuff cost extra accordingly;
New SCAT 3.75 cast crank.
Match balanced. (extra charge for dynamic balance)
Cloyes double roller timing chain.
Clevite or Federal Mogel bearings.
5.7 or 5.565 rods (reconditioned)
Speed Pro moly rings.
Federal Mogel or equivalent hyperuretic pistons.
Federal Mogel lifters.
Custom ground camshaft to your specifications.
No block core exchange required.
Give him a call or email him and at the very least he may be able to help you decide what combination would be best for your needs and budget. Tell him that Mike Robinson recommended him to you.
(This information is for you or ANYONE who wants it)

Take a look at www.ryanscarpage.50megs.com to see if you can find a dynoed engine combination that suits your needs! This could also help you make some decisions.

That $1150 starting price is Really Good !
Bear in mind, if you get a motor done and shipped from far away, you still have to ship it back if you have a problem.
Etc.
I just got my 2nd motor off ebay, the first was a hassle with lots of little problems, that seems ok now, the second one arrived today, and one problem showed uyp so far, and I'm not sure if it is a big deal or not.
Look for it under a new thread.

Why buy such a heavy and expensive (for me atleast) piece of equipment from another state? Savings, duh! . I haven't priced anything local myself, but wonder what a local engine builder or the local chevy dealers charge vs in another state. I can't imagine the nightmare if you have to return the engine, etc.
