I'm looking for info on how to properly cool my auto trans. My 72 was originally a manual and I will be returning it to a 4 or 5 speed in the future, for now $$$ are going into the paint and other areas. I just bought a new Dewitts direct fit aluminum for the manual set up, and need to add a seperate cooling system for the trans. The previous owner strap tied a small cooler to the front of the old radiator, are they any good, any better methods? TIA WB
The previous owner probably had the right idea. It's a little hard to see in the pic but my 1967 has the GM (stock) cooler in front of the rad to cool the Powerglide. The original aluminum rad does not have tanks for the transmission fluid. My transmission has never failed me.

Thanks Paul, Your photo is very close to what was on mine. I'll shop for a new one as this one isn't in the best condition. A friend showed me that on his 07 there is a trans temp LED read out, and that it runs around 210 degrees, sounds hot to me? WB
I ran a th350 on my 55 chevy with only a trans. cooler strapped in front of the radiator and it never failed me. My cooler was small, but it was made for an RV.
