Default Doug's Headers

I was looking at Doug's catalog & noticed that they only list headers up through 74. Is there any reason that headers for a 74 wouldn't fit on my 79?

I'm not sure, but I believe the crossmember changed in 75. so, you'd have to get the dual exhaust crossmember

That was about 80 or 81 I think. Mine has a dual hole crossmember & I'm currently running true duals.

It's possible that headers (not just Doug's but anyones) may fit years other than the catelog lists. It's the smog rules.

For example, my Hedmann "Hedders" were listed for a SB engine in a 68/69. The catalog stated that they would fit straight plug only SB's.

Well actually, I installed a ZZ4 in my 68. The ZZ4 has angle plugs and the cylinder head exhaust ports are 0.100 inches (??) higher than the 68 SB stock engine. The Hedman Hedders fit nicely. (I had to ground out their exhaust ports a little to match my ZZ4 D port heads.)

The appllication rules on header manufacturers catalogs may be stated to maintain legallity with smog regulations. Their headers may fit other years, but they can't tell you.

So, will '74 headers fit your '79? You need to look at the exhaust ports on the 79. Are they really different that 74? Also, is there something in the 79 engine bay that will interfere with a 74 header?
Maybe call Doug's and tell them you don't have to comply with smog rules and just ask if the headers will fit a 79.

Good Luck..... Been there, done that.

PS: Opps. Didn't notice that thing about the number of exhaust ports in your crossmember!! Anyhow, the above comments are still pretty much valid.

Didn't they go to catyletic convertors in 1975? Probably smog requirements. Bet they will fit!
