Default Transmission Change

What parts are needed to change over from and Automatic Transmission to a Manual 4 speed, on a 73? Can any of the parts be used from other cars other than a Vette, if so which ones? Will it be hard to change over?

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!

I did my '70 last spring, can't be much different than your '73. I have a comprehensive list of everything needed to complete the job and how much it cost...email me and I'll send it to you.

Why go with a 4 speed when you can install a 5 speed for the same money and have a better tranny with better top end and gas mileage. My auto to 5 speed swap cost me less than $1,500.00.

500 miles ago I converted my '77 from auto to TKO-500 and originally installed a mechanical linkage. I have now just converted my manual linkage system to hydraulic. If anyone is looking for a complete manual linkage system which is like new, I have all the parts. I also have a 168 tooth billeted steel flywheel with less than 500 miles on it as I just switched engines from the L-48 to ZZ4 and I had to buy a different flywheel. IM me if you are interested.

How do you like the hydraulic over the manual?

I have not been able to test drive it yet as I have run into a clearance issue with my hydraulic bearing. I am awaiting a response from the supplier of the kit as to the fix.

Is that a problem isolated with your transmission brand or all C3s could have this issue?

You must have gone with a hydraulic throwout bearing. Pricey. For about a $100.00 you could have installed a hyd slave cyl to the clutch fork and been driving now!

I would like to have a 1/4" free play in the hydraulic bearing in it compressed state between the pressure plate forks and the bearing surface. Right now I have -1/4" so I need to gain 1/2" some how and I don't see any easy way to do that.

Did you get the throwout kit from the people that you got your TKO from? They should have sent you everything your need and instructions on how to get the 1/4 clearance you need. If you can't you can always sent it back and do it the easy and cheap way. Don't get rid of the flywheel until you get it how you want it!

I didn't think of that...if it was a vendor purchase, they will or should have everything you need in the kit, and tech support. Maybe contact them.
