It's about 19 degrees here, the '80 hasn't ever started well in the cold and all I ever managed to do was flood the carb and drain the battery. Last week I replaced the choke pulloff (Broke the electric choke blade in the bargain..fixed it yesterday) and today I went outside and slapped on a Accel Super Coil.
I closed my eyes, turned the key.... I couldn't believe my ears!!! This baby came to life like it was the middle of summer! I took a brief joy ride, damn this car has a good heater!!!
Nothing like fixing something yourself and having it run much better afterwards. To this day, I will put a well running carbureted car against a fuel injected any day for ease of starting. My daily driver is an 84 Bonneville with a 2 barrel. It will crank for about 1 second in the dead cold of the morning. After that, even when leaving from work after sitting all day, one hit of the gas pedal to set the choke and it starts instantaneously. The Jeep Grand Cherokee I used to have cranked for 1 or 2 seconds every single start.
Wish it was that warm in the morning here, Monday morning it was -24 and my jeep sure did shake when I started it. Guess I should be glad it started at all Glad to here your happy with your morning start now
sure wish I could drive my vette only about 2 more months to wait and I should be able to.
