Default Exhaust questions???

Hello all! My name is Keenan and I am starting a 1980 coupe rebuild project. I want to beef up the exhaust alittle but I don't want to go to loud. I am into the idea of a flowmaster (don't know which one), I guess what I am saying is that I know nothing about exhaust and what would be a good, clean sound. Help! Thanks.

Will you be doing it yourself or will you have an exhaust shop do it? If it's a shop, take it by and drop her off. Tell them you want true duals, 2.5" aluminized pipes, and a pair of Flowmaster 40 series.

If the state you live in requires you to have CATs then find that out, and have one installed in each pipe.

Delta 50 series. Loud when you hit the go pedal and a nice rumble when cruising around.

40 series are Loud almost all the time when the car is running. But they do sound good

I had a set of flowmaster delta flow 50's series in mine....They resonated terribly inside the car....I dumped them and went with side pipes....

Before the flomaster 50's I had magnaflow's 2.5" striaght through and there was no resonance inside the car at all...Very nice sound, and a little loud at wide open throttle but perfectly comfortable inside the car....even when cruising down the highway at 4000 rpm..

If I went back with the undercar exhaust I would definately go with the magnaflows...

40's are no good if he doesnt want it too loud... go with 50 series.

Personally, I love my 40's, but after a ride with no mufflers at all the other day....

I'm a big fan of Magnas because of the difference on my Dodge motor. I originally went with dual Flows. I enjoyed the sound, but my gas mileage got worse. Someone told me about the Magnas, and I switched. Not only did I get better sound, the MPG increased.

Can you carry a normal conversation inside with 40's at the back? I don't mind hearing the pipes... in fact, I prefer it. As long as it's not so loud that you have to yell at each other inside. If you can carry a normal conversation without raising your voice at 2500-3500 rpm's driving around town with flowmaster 40's, I'm ordering them tomorrow! My 75 Bronco with a 302 had a single 40 that was under the seat and no carpets was unbelievably loud but, damn it sounded good. I would love that same tone but lower volume in my Vette.

I recommend the Flowmaster Super 40s. I had a post here not too long ago on how they sound with my new engine (do a search). Someone else posted their exhaust on the same thread so you can hear similar combos with the 2.5" exhaust and super 40s installed. They don't vibrate my brains near as bad as the old delta 40s on my truck.

I like the sound of these better then the flowmasters. the magnaflows don't give the exhaust hum in the cab that flowmasters do. Some people like the hum to others its a big bee inside the car.

Which Magnaflows did you get? The set in Corvette Central's catalog for $140? If so, are they much louder than stock? I want it louder than stock but, not as loud as the FM 40's.

I am going with Borla myself, slight back pressure, no resonance and not very loud. Had them on my 77 so I know what I am getting. If I want loud I always have the Harley with the 2" drags

I think I would go with this system: Pypes Performance Exhaust - 1968-82 CORVETTE SYSTEMS

They are new and won't be available till April. However the company has a good reputation and the price ($599.00) is decent.

Don't go with Flowmaster 40s. I'm taking mine off this year. The resonance at 2k RPM in unbearable when I have the tops on.

I currently have Flowmaster 40 series delta flows and they have a nice deep rumble but I plan to switch to super 40's. I just want something a bit louder but not as loud as the standard 40 series. I'm also considering Dynomax but don't know which ones yet since I haven't heard sound clips of the super turbo or ultra flows.
