Good point about using Loctite to keep the insert in place. I don't recall Heli-coil mentioning that in their literature. I'll have to do that in a job I have.

As always Gary, very nice work. Staking the insert helps in keeping the insert as well as the loctite and whatever thread lock is there to begin with. As you said, I believe it will be there for ever.
Nice job! I have a similar problem with a stripped motor mount bolt hole in the block of my 427. I was going to helicoil it but my machinist brother-in-law said a thread replacement (like yours) was the way to go. Now I know why I like that guy. I never actually saw a heli-coil fail before as was a little skeptical. You've made a believer out of me I guess I can stake the top of the threads, since the hole is blind? ...Thanks...Joe
Along that same design, I used to use a different type called "Keensert" on VW drag race engines. Very similar to the ones shown, but on the outside threads they had 2-4 what I can only describe as pins sticking straight up that you drove down into the theads to 'lock' the insert. No stakeing required and I never had one fail.
