Oliver, you have stepped up to a much faster set up....everything matters more and is more critical. The margin for error is far less and the consequences are more expensive if you screw up.
I understand that thing about the A/F ratio.. but the data logger would log the same data that the gauge displays.. All my plugs look the same.. There's no plug that seems a lot leaner or richer.. Therefore, I assume that the A/F is very similar on all cylinders.. On my last engine, there were noticable differences between cylinders. On that engine not.. The camera doesn't only log A/F, it also monitors all the other gauges like oil pressure, temperature, trans temp etc. etc.. and it will be logging fuel pressure once I'll install such gauge visible through the windshield..

That's why I usually have the camera pointed at the gauges.. I'll be able to see the oil pressure reading during the pass. The oil pressure gauge is mechanical and I don't know how a data logger could record analog data??

Data loggers record data in graduations of milli-seconds. If your idea was that great all the pro-mod guys would save thousands in data loggers and hardware and just point a camera at their gauges. I am not saying it is not a good idea to have the camera, I am just afraid you are relying on it too heavily.

About your plugs, were they all fresh new plugs on that run ?

How do you record data on mechanical gauges with a data logger??.. Fuel and oil pressure are mechanical gauges..
All the plugs were new. I only drove a little bit around the track to warm up the engine but that's about it...

Electronic sensors that record the data to a computer.

Did you read that link I referenced......can you cut a plug like they did, or at least a better pic of the ground strap.

I'll go the route with the logger when I'm ready for my next build..

I'll try to get a better pic of one of the plugs today. I won't cut the plug as I only have 2 spare plugs...

I manage to find a few tracks here and there that aren't too picky. Sometimes I only get one or two runs.....some of the ones that let you run all day might surprise you!

Why is it so critical for Oliver to be reading the plugs with a 100 horse shot. This is usually a no brainer and you just put in the suggested jetting, change nothing else and just run????
Sure John you are running large doses and it becomes critical but at Oliver's level it is not.
I have set up at least 6 guys with mustangs with the 100 horse level and other then offering them NO options as to jetting, I keep all the jets and they just go out and run.
I have seen as much as 2 seconds improvement with this level of nitrous, no other change from one weekend to the next and I have never seen or heard of a hurt motor.
One of the guys likes burn out contest and he actually had both his tires ignite with a good fire and he runs on nitrous for most of the run.
It just seems strange to be talking about data loggers with this level of nitrous???

I was wondering the same thing..
For the littls 100 shot, it was recommended to gat a $500 fuel pump, all new larger fuel lines, and additional regulator etc. and data loggers.. That would be a expensive 100 shot .. $2000 investment for a $700 nitrous setup

Norval, I would not be on Oliver's case to read the plugs if the car was running right on nitrous. He said he had a backfire, therefore he has a problem and needs to find it before something gets hurt. As for the talk about data loggers, I am trying to convince Oliver that a video camera pointed at gauges is not a data logger. I never suggested he put a data logger on the car.

I want to get a good look at a fresh plug after it has been run and properly shut down. If it is as pig rich as I suspect we can start to get Olivers tune in the right ballpark

I'm still pretty sure that the backfire was caused by the power valve closing up as vacuum built up after the shift. I talked to a friend yesterday who runs a vacuum gauge in his race car and he says that vacuum builds up for a moment after every shift. I'm using a 4.5 power valve on the primary side and if enough vacuum builds up for a moment and closes the power valve, there will be a temporary lean condition. I will switch to a 6.5 power valve to be sure that the valve won't close after a shift. We will see if that will fix the issue.
