Default need info. on 68 wheels

I am aware, as I'm sure most of you are, that the 68 wheel is 7 inch with an "AG" stamping next to the valve stem. And I know that chev. also made some 7inch wheels. I just don't know when chev. made the 7inch rally wheel that looked very much like the vette wheel, and I don't know the difference between the two wheels.

Also, did they take a different beauty ring? How different is the chev. wheel and can you tell the difference when it's on the car?

I'd be glad to have any information.

Thanks Jack

The 67 wheel uses the more narrow type trim rings. In the mid 70s some other cars, Monte Carlo was one, had a similar rim to the 67 except it was 7 inch and offset more to the rear. The face looked like the 67. The 68 had a 7 inch wheel, but the face was deeper to accept the wider trim ring like the 69. The 68 trim ring literally filled the space to the inside of the rim. The 69 up wheel was 8 inch and the face was even deeper. The trim ring on the 69 has about an inch of space between it and the wheel.

This I believe to be correct. 69 wheels use the 68 stainless ring as there was only one size.

Thanks ..... I have tried the 69 beauty ring on the set of 68 wheels that I have.....(I'm fairly certain they are chev. and not vette.) They don't even come close to fitting.

Does anyone have a set of AG wheels from a 68 ???? What beauty ring is correct?

68 was a one year only 7" wheel with a 4" offset.
The others were correct in that the deep rings for 69 and later fit on the 68 only wheels. The other 15X7 rallys were for Monte Carlo and Impala / Caprice and used the shallow trim rings. I believe that Wheel Vintiques makes a repro 68 wheel.

I have 2 68 15x7 wheels that came off my car and they had the 69 trim ring installed.

I have the original 1968 15X7`s in front and 1969 15X8`s in the rear with the 68 beauty rings on all four. Wombvette has the 68/69 rim figures and mine fit as he describes.

I appreciate the information that all of you have supplied, it appears as though my questions are answered.

The following should be correct statements........
The 68, 69 and up beauty rings are the same.
All beauty rings will fit the 68 7inchvette wheel, with the inside edge of the ring being very close and almost touching the wheel.
The beauty ring on the 69 and up wheel will have a noticable space between the inside edge of the ring and the wheel
These same beauty rings will not fit the non-vette 7 inch wheel.

Thanks to members who have replied.....I can help you with 63 information.....but obviously not as well informed with the 68.

Have a good day.................Jack

I have been wrong on occasion, but I believe that Vette wheel bolt patterns are 5 x 4 3/4. Other chevy Wheels are 5 x 5 so they would not fit a Vette without adaptors.

I was under the impression that most passenger cars used the 5 x 4-3/4 pattern, and 1/2 ton pickups, vans and possibly large station wagons used 5 x 5. But I've also been wrong before.

I just measured the 5-slot Ralley spare for my 70...

5 hole - 4.75" circle, 8"width, 4" backspacing.

Also measured two truck C10 16 slot Rally wheels... one 1980, the other 1986.

both 5 hole - 5" circle, 8" width, 4.5" backspacing.

So... the Vette & C10 Ralleys are not interchangeable.

Not that it helps, but adds to what's on the table.

Most of the car suff , like the Monte Carlo, is the same as the Corvette of the period.
