Emissions testing problem.
In order to get my recently purchased 79 registered, I need to put a catalytic converter on. Currently the exhaust consists of headers with straight pipes, no mufflers. The BMV says two cats are fine. What setup should I use? Dual cats and dual mufflers. Dual cats and no mufflers. What products are recommended? Does anyone have experience with this sort of thing?

If you got to run cats, go with dual hi flo cats and whatever muffler blows your skirt up, stay with the duals. Where are you located? What year car?

that is for a 2" syatem, they have others.
The muffler depends on how much your neighbors like you, my pref is the SS Bourla's nice sound, not to loud, polished stainless steel,,,

My '89 IROC had a factory 2 cat setup into a 3" pipe and I ran it without a muffler for a while. It was a "tinny" sounding exhaust system. Kinda grated on your nerves as it reved up. I recommend some Walker high-flow cats (got mine from Jegs) and some really open flowmaster type mufflers to resonate the sound.

California DMV is particularly **** on these issues. Whether you are effecting the emitting gases, even in a positive way, is not their focus- it's if the system has been altered in whatever way. Therefore, putting in dual cats on a true dual system is patently illegal, because it is altered from the original dual Y into single cat and Y back to dual system. Even tho common sense says two cats would be equal or better than one, emission-wise.
