Hey guys... been toying with the idea for a new engine for my 81. I saw and was impressed with the simplicity of the GM crate 350 Ram Jet setup. for those of you not familiar with it ; 350hp/400lbs tq 2 bolt main, iron block iron heads, 9.4 to 1 compression. runs about $5000 with ecu, ready to run. anybody out there think its worth dropping that style intake (available seperate) on a zz383 with aluminum heads and then just uppin the injectors to 30lbs accels? The zz383 is running 425hp/460tq aluminum heads. runs 9.7 to 1, 4 bolt main, one piece rear. the 383 would run me about 2k more than a stock 350 ramjet. Upside as far as i know would be more reliability. lighter engine, and 75 ponies to play with. lemme know what you think! J
wow...thats 2k over what my part estimates came out to for an intake, computer setup, block and upgrading injectors. but at least they put it together for you. lemme know how your install goes pics would be nice! i havent seen it in a vette yet!
oberth1 -- although over your budget, just for a comparison you can get a ZZ502 Pro Flow EFI (50hp/569tq) setup for about 10k, therefore I think the ZZ383 RamJet from AZ speed for $9,200 is way overpriced.
as far upgrading the zz383. If it will work it is a more cost effective way to go...
You have to change out your hood to run the ram jet. I'll be using a L88 hood on mine. I'll take lots of pics of the entire process to share with you guys.
