I am having difficulty putting new brake pads on my 79. Were the factory calipers spring loaded? Anyway, my mechanic said that the best way to do it is to take the caliper off. The brake lines are not flexible. Is it safe to bend the line slightly?
The factory hard line that connects the caliper to the system may kink if you bend it too far. The aftermarket brake lines are made from a more malleble material and will tolerate some bending when removing and installing.
The pistons DO have springs behind them, though they are not real powerful.
The pistons just have to be fully retracted back into their bores. What brand of brake pads did you get? Never put anything but a Delco pad on a Corvette so don't know how other brands are dimensionally.
