iv read sevrl threads on the subject of crossfire...cross fire systems can be purchased frly cheap...im not intrested in building a hp/hotrod but a good daily driver with an upgrade to fuel injection.(going on a stock sbc)..iv looked ing all the options from edelbrock pro-flo to 670cfm tbi holley projection.and not intrested in tpi systems..but when u see efi systems used on ebay going for almost what u can buy them new...im not on of those people who gets stupid on ebay....but u can still find crossfire systems out there..and i really would like to keep it gm parts if i can..........my main questions are:::::: if the crossfire system is running correctly will it perform as good as the q-jet...?? i know the starting and consistancy would be better...but i dont want to go bkwrds in hp...just easy starts, upgraded fuel delivery system, alittle better fuel ecno.....thanks

If you're swapping to a fuel injection style, there are better options than Crossfire. TBI and TPI are both better and will cost about the same. Is there a reason you like crossfire specifically?

I would suggest TBI. You can get a complete TBI manifold with throttle body and maybe even a harness and computer for around $200. The TBI was a stock application on many many many cars, trucks, and vans for many years. Parts are very available, and while you get the reliability of a fuel injection system you get tunability for upgrades and high HP without having to upgrade the hardware. TPI was also a factory option, but it's a tad more expensive than a TBI.

CFI = TBI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! both have 2 injectors, you cn run both systems with the same ECM, the CFI only has a parallel spliced IAC control because of the 2 throttle bodies. Everyone who says CFI is unreliable is talking rubbish, it's the exact same stuff as all those years TBI. The CFI can easily be run off a 1227747 TBI ECM (hacked and easy to get stuff for) All CFI parts are available as they are TBI parts, regulator, injector, sensors...whatever, it's all the same.

Was the CFI used on any other car besides the Corvette and why did it only live a couple years?

I have to agree with Durango that it would be easier to install one of the later twin-injector/single body TBI setups, but if you have the CFI around, go for it. The big upgrade would be using a later computer, the early one used on the CFI motors wasn't the greatest piece of Delco electronics.

nothing wrong with the 1225550 or the C4 one (forgot part #s for auto and manual) most of them still work after 20+ years. They're just a tad big for the 82 models. The 84 ones are a good bit smaller (same general size as all later non weatherpack OBDI ECMs) and an 84 ECM will work no problem. Using the 1227747 ECM involves installing an edge card connector board or rewiring the harness for the pin type plug. You can buy edge card connector converted 7747s from http://www.speedtronics.net
