noisy pressure plate
I thought the mainshaft on my M20 4-speed was going bad or at least the bearings around it, very noisy at idle and the unit was just rebuilt less than a year ago. Now after pulling the tranny and reading some posts on another forum I'm thinking the noise I'm hearing at idle is the weights attached to my centerforce 2 pressure plate (11"). When I depress the clutch pedal, no noise. The trans and clutch operate just fine, shifts smooth. I only pulled the trans because I was concerned about the noise. Any of you folks ever experience anything like this?

Also check the clutch plate on the shaft. The splines could be worn. Does a Centerforce plate have cushion spring like the OEM clutch? Check for a broken spring too.
I just looked at the Centerforce page and see the ring with weights on the diaphragm. Bet that's the rattle. Call them and ask..
