Am checking out your EPWI rockers. Are they CAT/RPM w/ epwi marking? Can you tell? How do you like em?
I'm not sure. My engine builder is in Denver where EPWI HQ is located. I guess he's been using them for many years. If you can tell what type they are, I have better pix of just the rockers.
I snapped a few shots while the engine was being built. They looked pretty nice and I haven't had any problems over the last two years...
Yes. They have "ProTopline" embossed in the center of the head...with a checkered flag like their logo. I've had zero problems with mine...
Hi Z-man, it's hard to diagnose potential issues from photo's but it appears there's some radical misalignment between the those rocker's
and the valve tips. It's something that will come back to "haunt" you in short order or in the near future.
You really want the roller tip on the rocker arm to be pretty much centered over the valve when looking at the assembly from the side. This misalignment can and will lead to premature wear on the guides and all the components on top. Like I said, this is based on what appears in the photo. I'm not certain the pushrods are in place in that particular photo, but I assume they're installed!
(Add) Just looking back at "Black Sharks" photo and it also appears he's got very similar issues with the alignment, again, it's sometimes difficult to base input on the photos.
Thanks, Gary in N.Y.
P.S. Almost all the SB aluminum casting's we build around, no matter the brands, require using some offset intake rockers AND some adjustable guide plates. We find the Crane's rockers along with the Isky plates tends to make the overall final assembly much easier! Moreso on castings with 200 cc runners and larger.
They look like it in that photo don't they. I have others that show them all lined up, so maybe I was there between times when he was fiddling around with them during installation. Thanks...

Just adding 2 cents here. I bought PTL 180s a little over 3 years ago. When I mocked them up, the ports on one end were way out of line. I had to grind the crap out of the outside of the port where the pushrod passes by to get the rod, to get the rocker to the center of the valve tip. The ports were no where near matching the intake manifold ports so I had to grind the port opening to get that close. A guy in C4 had some that were so far off that they had to weld up the ports and gind them to match the intake. This was all before RHS bought PTL, so I hope they have some quality control by now.
