I just got back from the weigh scales with my 74. I thought it would be lighter then what I found. All weights are with 1/2 tank of gas.
Front-1650, Rear-1672, Total-3344 (yeah I know the weights don't add up perfectly, it was a highway truck scale). With driver (me): Front-1760, Rear-1804, Total-3520.
I thought that the car would be 200 lbs. lighter. Aluminum heads and intake, headers, no spare tire or carrier, aluminum rims, 4-speed with no air conditioning, no power windows. The stereo probably added ~30 lbs.
I know the mid 70's cars got heavier mostly due to meeting increased crash standards. What do the earlier and later C-3's weigh?
74vetteman, my car specs sticker on the inside of the drivers door says my car weighs a little less than 4000 lbs. Something like 3990 or something in that ballpark figure.
Holy Smokes, I hope your car doesn't weigh that much! I think you might be looking at the Gross Vehicle weight, that is the maximum you can carry (passengers and luggage).
Just did mine at the truckstop the other day with about 1/2 tank. 3600 with me in it. That = 3350 without me if the scales are accurate. Didn't know if you just wanted '74's.
This is a great question & I'll bet most members don't have an exact answer. I lucked out awhile back when I found out that my neighbor has a 4 corner scale that he & his partner have used for racing. Total weight, car only, w/ a very light load of gas was 3411 lbs. With aluminum radiator(hopefully soon) & aluminum heads(not soon) I will get down to low-mid 3300s.
My '69 with small block, Alum heads, side exhaust, no spare and My 200 lb Butt weighed 3480 on a truck scale, but I gotta wonder how accurate those things are at those low weights...
1) Where can you get your car weighed? (It doesn't seem to fit on my bathroom scale....) :jester
2) On Tom78's car, what do you call that Cool looking front piece... Is it a Front spoiler, or front valence, or both? (The cool ground effect type piece)... was that a stock option? Can you get a urethane/fiberglass addon to a car without one? (Btw, Nice car tom, love those pipes)
I took my car down to the scales at the local truck stop and it weighed in at 3050 1550 lb fr and 1500 rear. According to the title my car weighs 2900lbs and that is supposed to be with a big block. Next time i'm at the track i'll weigh it there that should give me a much better idea of the actual weight.
I'm planning on going up to the local landfill to weigh my Vette. I can't wait to see their faces
I'll put a bag of trash in the car for a laugh
