....Someone should find the guy responsible for all gm v8's from 1972 to 1982 and make him pay to fix all our engines!
Aint that the truth...I dunno, RWHP is much different from "I think" horsepower.
On my new engine, we put on the edelbrock performer eps intake, edelbrock 600 performer carb, mild street cam and on paper it "supposedly" had around 250-260 hp. But, on the ground dyno said much, much less than that .
But, it did have the stock shorty headers on it connected to the single Y pipe/cat then back to duals. Once I get the Stans TriY headers, dual race cats & straight duals put on it next week, I'll get it dyno tuned & post the new RWHP results.
Stay tuned.......

Just a note. Changing the rear gears is an expensive endevour. I would chock that one up only if the budget allowed it.
how is $350 for gears included expensive????? any size gear runs around $180 tops and then $100-150 in labor. and thats if you dont know how to change them yourself which isnt hard at all!
you can get a set of heads, cam, intake and a carb and not get as much seat of the pants feeling as you would from a tall set of gears!!! specially going from 3.0 to a 4.0

If the '81s came stock with 2.87s or 2.72s (as-did my '82 ), this is even more-so true, and since almost ANY modifications done to the motor will result in higher RPM potential, if you can't get the car wound-up quicker, it'll just 'lug' itself.

Might be different every place. I've looked into getting gears swapped...and it's never under $500.
