******REVISED TOPIC*****Auto -vs- 4 speed Driveshaft and yolk?
Does anyone know the measurements for these driveshaft? My '68 is a factory 4 speed car, but I just took out a TH350. I'm getting ready to stab a Muncie back in it and I'm wondering if the driveshat I have will fit. The one that's in there measures about 31 inches from longest point on each end.
From: GA "When I grow up, I'm gonna get a Trans Am and run from the cops". Direct quote from my 4yo son.
Scott, I don't think you will have a problem. Going back to one of my Camaro's I did an auto (TH350)to manual with a M-20. There was not any length difference in the driveshaft or yoke. I didn't change anything. One of the above posts says the TH 400 yoke is the same as a muncie, I'm pretty sure that is wrong. It is the same as the Borg Warner T-10 though. Different spline and bigger around. I don't see any problems with the length or anything with what you're trying to do. Chevy was great about the interchangeability of parts. Hope I'm right on that one!

The Muncie yoke changed over the years, I did a google search on it for another thread and found a site with a list of the size and splines over the years.
The trans yoke is diffrent but the shaft is ok. Muncie and th400 yoke are the same.
The spline count on Muncies varied by year.. (i.e. the muncies out of 1970 Vettes had 27 spline yokes), so be aware that not every year Muncie has the same spline count as the TH400.. Most years have but especially some earlier Muncies use 27 spline yokes...
As others said, driveshaft length between TH350 and Muncie manual trannies are the same length...
OK - I planned on trying to use the same driveshaft, but the new yolk for the muncie is a lot bigger than the one for the TH350 I just took out and of course it will not mate to the U-joint. Is there any way I can make this work without having to buy a new driveshaft?
I was hoping to complete the installation tonight or tommorrow.
Thanks.
Scott

Yes, there is a transitional u-joint availabe at most auto parts stores.
Great. I guess the easiest thing to do is to take both yolks in the store. Would Autozone, Advance or Oreily's carry one of these?
I took mine to NAPA and the guy there worked with me to find one that would fit both yokes. I find NAPA guys here mrore willing to work with me on the custom fit stuff
