Default Drooping hood?

Still haven't been able to figure this one out. Check out the pictures. The front point of my hood seems to drooping so that it sits lower than the front hood surround. The rest of the hood lines up great when it's closed: both sides line up with the fenders and the gap is nice and consistent all the way around. Actually the gap at the front, if looking directly down at it is really even too, it's just the tip seems to dip down. Anyone have any ideas? The first picture is looking forward at it from over the right fender. The second picture is looking at it directly from the passenger side.

Thanks in advance!

Sometimes the nose panel releases from the header and raises up. Check under the panel in that area at the header bar.

Do you think that this could happen from a collision? The bumper on this car was damaged when I bought it. Should I just reglue it, or do I need to perform more extensive surgery?

I battled with this last winter. There is a steel header under that is bonded to the glass that also supports the headlights. The wreck likely caused it but this is an area that is prone to separation because of rust. I ended up since I was rebuilding headlights removing the header. Cleaned everingthing up and rebonded it in using a whole lot of clamps. There seems to be a lot of stess in this area and my bonding started to come apart after a couple of weeks, (thankfully I had'nt re-assembled) so i went back to what they did in the early seventies and riveted the header in.

Hope this helps

Chris

Thanks Chris, I think you've nailed it. Looking underneath, I can see the nose/front hood surround has lifted from the header. Well, I was going to dive into the fiberglass work anyway, so here's just another one to add to the list. Weird how much tension is in that area, because I can barely flex that area. This should be fun....

Ever see a C-3 that had bumps between it's headlight doors and the hood opening? This is from the factory rivets on the steel header. Since they were not treated with anything they rust with time, expand, and cause bumps. I would think rivets today are treated.
