Is it all right if my 79 sits on one jackstand under the passenger side? Are there any potential problems that can occur? The car has been jacked up for about two weeks.
I assume that you have one stand in the middle of the side rail. If true...Not good at all. Do your doors & T top still open and close ok?..are body lines/gaps still good.
This is putting stress on your frame and glass body. What weight is your single jack stand good for.
I was UNDER my Vette on a creeper, spun around and kicked one of the jackstands. It went scootin' across the garage. When I got all done p***ing myself, the car was just setting there on 3 like nothing happened. Bottom line, it needs to be on 2 (or 4). But at least on my '69, that frame is really stiff.
Jack stands are cheap insurance to protect your pride and joy. There's no good reason to temp fate- and possibly damage the car, by using a single stand in the middle of a 30 plus year old frame. Add some more support and lose the worries.

I was concerned about the same thing while working on my coupe brake lines (front), so instead of using a jack stand I used a floor jack; when I was finished I would lower the jack down so that the car sat more or less level. Then back up it goes when I go back to work on it. Used another hydraulic just in case the floor jack decided to leak down....
The original poster didn't say where he placed the stand. The middle of the frame is not where it should go. If he placed a stand in one of the recommended positions there shouldn't be any problem.

If you're asking the question, then you already know the answer. It is dangerous for you and anyone around (children playing come to mind) and possibly disastrous for your car. Over time that old frame will change shape due to the weight not being supported evenly. Next thing you know you have a cracked windshield, an alignment problem and a whole host of other issues to deal with.
Why bother? Go get a new set of jack stands if you have to but support the car properly and there will be no question.
