Default 1975, Cowl induction?

Am not at home right now so cant get to my AIM.

Am at a friends and was showing him around the Vette ( 1975 ) and he saw a wire running up the hood and said it was for the cowl induction. He said at WOT, a solenoid should open a flap on the hood to allow the induction of cold air and also give a nice roar....

So, we go for a drive, I stamp on the go faster pedal and look through the screen at the underside of the hood....nothing.

Should the flap opening be visible whilst driving and do 75 Vettes have this as standard equiptment?

TIA.

I don't think so. To check if it is opening just pop the hood and place a small light in the opening and with the key on, step on the gas pedal and see if you can see the light.

I used to have a 75 with the cold air hood. Air cleaner should have a gasket that seals to it also.

If you turn the key to the on position and push the gas pedal to the floor you will hear the door open if the system is working. If it does not open reach high on the gas pedal linkage and find the switch and push it all the way and see if it will clunk open. If this makes it work a piece of rubber hose on the switch rod is a quick fix.

Carl A, I can see my flap...its all white from overspray but it doesnt move. Doesnt seem to have a screen over it...will check switch, wiring and solenoid.

Two things,

My Tranny seems to be kicking down with no problems...do all trannys use this WOT switch or is it only certain years? I thought it was vacuum controlled...

Secondly, At WOT, when the cowl does open....is there a really noticable roar that you can hear? Would love to get it working if thats the case.

TIA

Only the TH400 uses the switch to downshift. The TH350 does not.

If the kickdown on your turbo 400 works you may have a loose plug under the dash not hooked up. On automatic cars the wires for the flapper were hooked to the switch on the pedal first then the kickdown wires plugged into the flapper conector. The kickdown wire will plug directly to the switch and work so look for the plug with male and female ends for the hood solinoid and see if it is conected. I forgot to plug this wire in when I put the dash in and it took some time to find the problem.

Cowl Induction 1975 - Yes, there is a roaring howl on my '75 when the
pedal goes to the floor. Actually scares some people. I do have the
original air cleaner on if that makes any difference.
