Can anyone give me some suggestions on how to ship a lower end? Who did you use? how did you do it? etc etc..
Thank You
A lower end will weigh a lot, and it'll be a truck service. Now, the easiest way is to find a local FedEx Freight, and ship through them. A cut down pallet, straps, and plastic. It won't be cheap. Plan for around $100.
You can also get in contact with the other end, where it's going, and find a mutual trucking company. Call all options, and get quotes. Go with the cheapest, and make sure you can drop it off and they can pick it up at the terminal. Most trucking companies will charge a lot of extra money for home delivery.
I got my plywood box with caster wheels from Bill Mitchell Hardcore race engines. It has an internal metal frame just like a little motor dolly that you buy from Harbor Freight tools.
you bolt your motor in and the crate is also fork liftable. Any engine shop that recieves crate motors probably has one.
I use mine to store my spare motor and to run them from the shops and back. The wheels makes it nice to move around
Try DHL Ground. Used to be Airborne Express Ground. They are much less than the rest.
I checked with them when I had my TH200R4 shipped, and they said it was over weight. If a transmission was too heavy I doubt an engine short block will fit the requirements.
I just had a 502 shortblock truck freighted from San Antonio to Cincinnati for $240. When I called to get prices, they were drastically different depending what day the freight was picked up. I didn't ask why but you might want to ask whoever you use if the charges are different depending on the pick up day.
