Help: Fusible Link rating
Hi, I have not posted in awhile. Finally working on electrical problem on my 76. The FUSIBLE LINK from the fuse box to the ALTERNATOR blew and I need to replace it. What is the AMP rating for this link? Any one else have this happen?
I really appreciate the help.

Called all the local Chevy dealers and they could not help me. Hoping to tackle this after work today.

Thanks, well it seems that C3's do not use fusible links and that its a regular wire that shorted and burned through. I was told that fusible links were not used until the early 80's. Can anyone validate this?

The wiring diagram for my 78' does NOT show a fusible link going to the alternator. There are 2 coming from the starter, but none to the alternator.
P.S: how about filling out your profile.

Researched this quite a while ago.
You probably won't find a direct rating. but the Rule of thumb is that you use 4 times the wire size.
12=20 amps, so a 12 ga fuseable link could be replaced by a 80 amp fuse element (a cartridge type fusible link)
Here is a good link

There were 4 separate and distinct fusible links in my '77.
I replaced all my fusible links with auto-reset circuit breakers:

Why did you use auto reset?

I don't want it to loose power until I get it out of the road if I can possibly avoid it.
Also, just about all new cars use these auto-reset breakers, so that's what I did.
They won't re-close until the fault is gone, so if it was an intermittant fault, it will reset and I will regain power.

The other two are 16gauge connected together at the end and attached to the starter via a crimped O connecter
