I changed my worn and busted tach cable today thinking that was my problem. When I got back up to the distributor i noticed there were no guts to my coupler at the distributor. It dosent seem possible for the pin to reach anything in that coupler so I realized something must be missing. Instead of piecing together a tach drive that I have no experience with I figured the smart thing to do is just buy a new distributor. Any advice on which to buy.
Currently running factory distributor with points ignition on a 71 350 stock.

Cheap, reliable and most important original. Just remember to use quality ignition parts(32 oz HD points, USA made cap & rotor like Accel) and have the ignition curve setup to your specific engine.

There is a little brass pin inside that coupler and it slips over the tach cable inside the cable tube. This pin falls off easily when u disconnect from the dist. That pin has a tiny roll pin sticking through at one end and fits inside the dist coupler mating the roll pin to a slot inside dist.
Someone unaware what the pin does may have dropped it during maintenance.
Well IMHO lars does the best work at the best price and u are lucky he offered u a fix-up. U can always buy a new dist. U may not always be able to have lars work his majic on your dist. BTW lars has a dist advance machine for setting the timing curves - ever had that done?
If you don't want that dist then sell it to me as i need a spare to rebuild for the practice.
