Default Harmonic Balancers

Looking at harmonic balancers for the new engine. Internally balanced, so I know which type to get, but....the weights of the balancers themselves vary from 4 to 12 pounds. Does it matter what the balancers actually weight? These are all elastomeric 'street balancers'.

Ok a lighter small dia. balancer will be a little like a light flywheel
easier for the engine to turn soak up less power to turn, people
use to use the lighter small dia factory balancers on the drag strip
over the heavier 8 inch balancer. The bigger balancer should be
better for controling harmonics and I would think would be what
you would want on a stroker street engine.

This will in turn give you the longevity for crank bearings that is not that critical on a race motor..

Yes, Go with the 8" heavier balancer. The late 60's early 70's factory High performance engines actually used a heavy 8" balancer due to the choppy cams and higher compression. Helped absorb more vibration, easier on the crank bearings. The mild cammed engines used a lighter 7" balancer becauise they didn't require as much dampening due to the mild smoother idleing cams and lower compression.
