I had read a thread earlier that the high beams are on the inside headlights. On my 74 the 3 prong headlights are on the inside. But when I turn the lights on,the inside 3 prong plug headlights turn on, when I hit the high beams the outside lights turn on and the inside lights remain on. Is something wired backwards or is this correct for 74.

It's backwards. The outside lights are low/high beams and have 3 terminal sockets. The inside lights are high and have 2 terminal sockets. Anything other than this is backwards...and someone tried to make your car look cross eyed.
The regular lights should be on the outside, and the high beams on the inside. Just swap the bulbs and the wires back to the factory position. I've seen a few of them swapped like that, the prev owner probably did it. Personally, I think it makes the car look crosseyed.
