Default Rebuilding a carb

I want to rebuild the carb off of my corvette and i dont have any idea where to start or even what kit to buy.

I got these numbers off of the carb.

Carter afb 1d4 9636s

What kit should i buy and is there a site i can go to that will walk me through the process of rebuilding it?

I know its not a good qjet but i'm not in a position to try to buy one. Im hoping to upgrade to an fuel injection of some kind later this year and just want to drive until then with this carb.

Thanks

A Carter AFB is not a Q-Jet. If it's really an AFB, you need to trash it and get a Q-Jet for the car. Seriously.
A Q-Jet looks like this. Is this what you have?:

I have rebuilt my Holley multiple times. Since its a different carb I wont even try to give pointers on rebuilding it. However, if you contact Autozone or some auto parts store they should be able to look it up and give you a price for the kit. As for rebuilding it, just put it back the same way it came apart but if you search for carb rebuild chart in google it should kick back some results. rebuild kit will also have an exploded view of carb. just make sure your seals and floats are done correctly. My estimated cost for everything is maybe $50, could be wrong though.

Seriously thanks but i want to buy a $25.00 rebuild kit to get me by for a few months not buy a whole new carb. I knew it was an afb and i even said i know its not as good as a qjet. I know what a qjet looks like and i have a carter that looks like the newer edelbrock carbs.

Actually, you said:

Seriously, I wouldn't bother rebuilding it. Pop the top off, clean things up a little, set the floats, and make sure the accel pump is fitting well in the bore. Pop it back together - that will be as good as that thing will run. If you really want to put a kit in it, go to NAPA and get an Echlin kit based on the 9636S carb number.

Tools: a screwdriver, the wrenches to remove the carb from the car.

Either a couple of cans of good carb cleaner or a pail of dip.

Everything else will be in the kit. I'd add a new float too.
