Default Intake/carb combo

Hi all,
i'm looking for some information about the best carb and intake setup. My car is a 1973 with a 350, and currently has an Edelbrock RPM performer intake with a 750CFM carb.
The car had this combination when i bought it and it's always served me well for road use but now i'm planning to use it on the track as well and i can't help but feel that it doesn't accelerate as it should. I have the impression it only really gets going above 3000RPM. On the track, off course i'd like her to start pulling from lower RPM's. Anyone have any ideas about a better combination? I'm sure the carb is too big but i don't know which one would be better.

Thanks for any advise.

As with most things, there is a trade off. The 750 carb will be great on the upper end of the RPM range for a small block, but the airflow speed thru the carb at lower RPM will be low and cause a little bit of a slow acceleration. To correct that, if you go to a lower CFM carb, you'll get the quick response, but lose on the upper RPM.

Play with accelerator pump adjustment. You didn't say what carb, but just about all carbs have some fine tuning you can do. Lars has tuning papers for carbs. I think there is a link from here. It may be something as simple as needing to tweak the accelerator pump, or needing to change the pump nozzle. No big deal either. THe hard part is figuring out what it needs.

Because you have a dual plane and vacuum secondaries the 750 should work fine.

Read on their web site all about adjustments. The other would be to ensure that the timing ..... is alright.

You have an unknown cam and it could be too high performance for the motor for your liking.
