I was wondering if i can mod the bezel that holds this tape deck.. Do they make a install kit for a cd player?? This deck HAS TO GO!!! Any ideas??? other then buying a new one!!
I put a CD changer in my Suburban. It's got a FM modulator, so I tune 88.7 on the radio, turn it on and enjoy the tunes. That maybe your easiest way. I bet there's someone out there that makes a CD player that will replace your factory tape deck if you want to go that way.
There is a Blanking Plate made for our Corvettes. It is cut out so
a CD/Radio modern version can be put in. You would have to cut the
bezel to do this. I have done this for two Vettes and it looks great,
and sounds great. Search the forums to see pixs. I got a Blanking
Plate for about $65, a JVC CD/Radio for $99, the laser cut for the bezel for $30.

This is what you need. Its the installation face for a DIN cd player in a C3 bezel. Get it from www.millionbuy.com for about $18. Cut your bezel and stick it in.
Personally I'd do what is shown above, but you could also get something like a Custom Autosound deck that has CD changer controls. Then you'd have a stock look with CD capability.
I put in a newer DIN style head unit in my '69 and other than the horror of cutting up the guage bezel it went really well. I got a plastic bezel that covered up the remnants of the shaft holes (The Last Detail here in Atlanta, $18) and the rest of the install went great. I think it looks like it belongs there.
I used a combination of a 3 "cut-off wheel and a small jig-saw.
